Dr. and Airs W. T. Simmons, of Patoa, wore on a visit to Alasterton today. Air H. V. Afarquet, of the Post Office staff, is spending his vacation with his parents at the Vicarage, Woolston, Christchurch.

Airs F. E. Tyler has been appointed delegate from the Carterton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union to the annual Convention, commencing at Timaru on March 19.

Air and Airs J. J. Hercock were entertained by the residents of AVaihakeke on Thursday evening, and presented with a reversible rug and two slip mats in honour of their recent marriage. Air W. The death occurred at Palmerston North on Tuesday of Air Geo. Shaw, who will bo remembered by the very early settlers of Greytown. AYhen the dairy factory was first opened in Greytown, on January 3, 1883, Mr Shaw was appointed its manager, a position he held for several years. On tho first morning 150 gallons of milk were received, and of those who.contributed their share to this quantity were Mr AS r . Udy and Mr Sam Haigh, who still reside in Greytown.

It was officially announced yesterday, a AVellington Press Association message states, that the Prime Alinistor will leave AVellington on Sunday for Rotorua to continue tho treatment he has been receiving. Sir Joseph Ward is accepting the advice of his Cabinet colleagues to remain in tho thermal centre for about a. month, in order to obtain the fullest benefit from the curative treatment. During that time he will be in daily communication with AVellington by telephone. The widespread sympathy shown in the death of Aliss Gwendoline Lucy (Nurse) Boyd, of Pahiatua, was evidenced on Thursday afternoon when the funeral took place. A very large number of friends attended an impressive service held in St. Peter’s Anglican Church by the Rev. G. V. Gerard, who also conducted the service at the graveside. Deceased had been on the staff of tho Alasterton and Pahiatua Public Hospitals. The former institution was represented by the Board’s secretary (Air 11. F. Green), and several nurses, close friends of the deceased, while Alatron Berry, Sister Ellis, and two local nurses represented the Pahiatua Hospital staff. There were numerous beautiful floral tributes, including one from the Pahiatua Croquet Club, and the Pahiatua and Alasterton Hospital Boards, and one from the ATatron and staff of the Alasterton Hospital. The executive of the Pahiatua Horticultural and Industrial Show, at a meeting yesterday,-passed a vote of deep sympathy to Mrs AV. T. Boyd and the members of her.family in their recent sad bereavement.
