THE WOOL HOLD-UP.

Whether it is advisable that a Wool Control Board should be set up in New Zealand is a matter ulion which there is considerable diversity of opinion, as was demonstrated at the meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union this week. On one phase of the problem, however, theer will be no divided opinion, and that is the unjust action of the buyers in boycotting the recent Wellington wool sale. It is the duty of the Farmers’ Union, in conjunction with those who directly represent the wool-growing interests, to see what can be done to prevent another scandalous wool “hold up” in the future. Having occurred once, is there any guarantee that another boycott will not be attempted? The wool grower has certain rights, and these should be protected. Those who represent the interests of the growers must combine for the purpose of seeing that the grower gets justice and a fair price in the market. Government action in the matter is even justified, because unon the sale of our wool at a payable price the prosperity of the Dominion as a whole depends so much. Whatever may be the solution, it is imperative that a repetition of the late “hold-un” must be prevented, or otherwise there will be ruin ahead for hundresd of the small wool growers in the Dominion.
