SPRING CATTLE FAIR.
Messrs. Wright, Stephenson ancl Co., Ltd., report:—Wo held our annual spring cattle fair in the Colombo Load yards yesterday, when a big entry of cattle came forward, our entry totalling 560 head of well-bred cattle. The Associated Yards could not accommodate all the cattle yarded and the yearlings w:ero all penned up in the Distributing Company’s yards, which were lent for the occasion. The sale attracted numerous buyers from all parts of the Wairarapa, and outside districts were also strongly represented, and although most of the store cattle were bought locally a largo percentage of the fat cattle was purchased by outsido buyers. A special feature of the sale was the particularly heavy entry of fat cattle yarded and included in our offering were some prime bullocks and cows, all of which met with keen competition and prices were well up to those ruling at this year’s previous fairs. At the commencement of the sale, when some big pens of 3 and 4-year bullocks were offered, bidding dragged somewhat, and one or two pens were passed in, but bidding brightened up considerably as the sale progressed and every pen was sold under the hammer, and the passed in lots offered earlier in the sale were eventually sold by private treaty. Store cows met with a very ready sale, especially pens showing any condition. Yearling steers and heifers were, in good demand, and we effected a total clearance under the hammer at the following rates:— Account Mamakau, 4-year bullocks, £l2 10s; fat cows (light), £lO 4s; store cows £B. Account 0. R. Judd, 3-yr bullocks, £lO 6s; fat cows, £l2 6s. Account R. A. Cameron, 3-yr steers, £lO. Account R. Cooper (in conjunction), fat cows, £ls 10s; fat heifers, £ls.
