REV. T. HALLIDAY.
FORMER LANSDOWNE MINISTER.
ENTERTAINED AT AUCKLAND.
A large number of members of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Grey Lynu, entertained the Rev. and Mrs Thomas Halliday and family at a farewell social on Saturday evening, states an Auckland exchange. The function was presided over by Mr Geo. MeClymont, who referred in eulogistic terms to the progress of the church during Mr Halliday’s ministry. The congregation, ho said, had increased from 64 to 261 members, which, in itself, was eloquent testimony to liis popularity and to the esteem in which lie was held. Representatives of various church organisations also referred to tho high esteem in which Mr and Mrs Halliday were held.
On behalf of the congregation, Mr Halliday was presented with a gold wristlet watch and a fountain pen. A gift of a dressing case was made to Mrs Halliday, and a handbag and a fountain pen were presented to Miss Halliday and Mr William Halliday respectively. The Rev. Mr Halliday will be remembered by many in Masterton as minister of the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church some years ago. He was extremely popular during his ministry here, and was held in high esteem for his many sterling qualities. - -He was an indefatigable worker, and was responsible for great progress in tho membership at 1 Lansdowne.
The Rev. T. Halliday has been appointed superintendent of tho social work of the Presbyterian churches of Auckland.
