WIPED OUT

HERIOT BUSINESS PLACES. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) GORE, Thursday. Six business places in Heriot were Avipcd out by fire last evening. The blaze started in the Bank of New Zealand building, and destroyed the premises of Stronach, Morris (merchants), A. IE Sinclair (bookseller), X. McCritchie (draper), H, Dickinson (tobacconist), and the Foresters Hall.

The business area of the township Avas practically Aviped out. The origin of the blaze is a mystery.

A bucket brigade was organised, but its efforts were futile, as the fire had too strong a hold when discovered about midnight, and a strong wind fanned the flames. The contents of all the places were also lost.
