QUEENSLAND SCANDAL.

OIL SHARE DEAL. BRISBANE, Thursday. Considerable discussion has taken place in the Legislative Assembly concerning the actions prominent people interested in the Morgana oil leases and the Mount Isa silver lead field. Allegations are being made that pressure Avas brought to bear on the former Labour Ministry to build a railway to Mount Isa, and for the Government purchase of the Mungana oil leases at £40,000, in consideration of gifts of shares. The Minister of Railways declared in the House that a Labour member, Mr Randolph Bedford, had “out of the goodness of his heart,” given shares to certain friends, including Mr E. G. Theodore, M.P., and the Deputy-Leader of the Federal Labour Party, Mr McCormack, a former Labour Prime Minister of Queensland, and Mr A. E. Jones, cx-Minister of Railways. It is further alleged that the gift of shares Avas Avorth thousands of pounds. The Prime Minister, Mr A. E. Moore, has agreed to appoint a Royal Commission to investigate the scandals, but the enquiry Avill not commence until Mr McCormack returns from England. —A. and N.Z. P.A.
