POSITION OF FARMERS. DISCUSSED BY PRODUCERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) A special meeting of the primary producers, called by the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was held to-day to consider the taxation proposals of the Government. Mr Poison (president) was in the chair, and thanked those present, about seventy, for attending. Referring to the statement that he had spoken in the House as representing the Farmers’ Union, Mr Poison explained that he had spoken as representing his constituents, and also expressed his own opinions. Mr Poison went on to outline the taxation proposals, and expressed the opinion that a man should not be taxed on his debts. The conference, in committee, discussed the question .of inviting Sir ,1. G. Ward to be present.. It was decided not to do so, but to ask him to receive a deputation in the afternoon. The conference went on to discuss in detail how the proposed taxation would affect individual farmers.
