HOCKEY.
WAIEARAPA ASSOCIATION. CLOSE OP SEASON. The Wairarapa Hockey Association’s fixtures were drawn to a close on Saturday, when Y.M.C.A. A, by defeating Greytown, won the championship for the season, with Carterton as runnersup. Next week a knock-out competition for the Bannin Shield will be started. Saturday’s results were:—Y.M.C.A. A beat Greytown, 5/1; Carterton beat Dalefield B, (i/1; Mauriceville beat Y.M.C.A. B, 2/0. The positions of the teams are as follow: —
LADIES’ GAMES. Owing to the heavy rain at Eketahuna, the Wairarapa v. Bush Districts ladies’ match had to be postponed, and will be played next Saturday. Wairarapa will be represented by the same team. Cars will leave Carterton at 12.15 p.m. .Junior ladies’ games resulted:—Old Girls beat Greytown, 1/0; Parkvale beat Carterton, 5/2. The High School A and B» game was not played.
N.Z. SHIELD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Canterbury retained the New Zealand hockey shield by beating Auckland today by two goals to one.
