A GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
Yesterday we expressed the opinion that, in the not far distant future, the educational facilities of Masterton would be inadequate for the important position which this town would hold as an education centre. The progress which the Wairarapa High School has made during the past year or two has been such that the time is fast approaching when the present building will be found altogether too small. Consequently, the matter of establishing a high school for girls only will have to be faced, and the sooner the better. Some years ago, when advocating the erection of a girls’ high school in Masterton, we pointed out that congestion would sooner or later occur at zhe Wairarapa High School, and that it would be a wise step to prepare the way for the establishment of a separate school to accommodate the girls. With the ever-growing importance of Masterton as a centre of education, the position will become aggravated. Therefore, those who control the High School should set about the work of establishing a girls’ high school, distinct altogether from the present institution, leaving the latter to he used solely for the teaching of boys.
