DISTRICT SCHOOLS.

HASTWELL. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. ■A .largo number of parents were in attendance at the school on Wednesday afternoon., on the occasion of the break-up: and prize-giving. In addition to the prizes donated a,y the committee a number of special prizes, provided by the teachers, and special sewing prizes donated by Mrs Isaecson, who judged the sewing, made quite an imposing array when seen on .the tables.

The presentations were made by the Chairman, Mr Geo. McClymont, who referred briefly to the large increase that place in the roll number, fact that a permanent .assistant had been appointed by the -Education Board.

Miss Forsythe, who has been relieving infant mistress for the past year, was faresrelled, and made the recipient of a gold-mounted fountain-pen presented bv~ the school children.

Afternoon tea was dispensed by the Indies, and a very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with votes oi thanks to the ladies, the teachers, and the i-h^timian.
