TERRIFIC EXPLOSION.
OF ACETYLENE TANK. SHOP DESTROYED. Press Assoeintion -Eleclric Telefiraph--Copjrigb (Received Friday, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. An acetylene tank exploded with a terrific, roar in the suburb of Newtown, destroying a two-storey shop. Pieces of the cylinder were blown through the walls of the adjoining premises. A large stack of timber was blown up, and pieces were thrown hundreds of yards awtv. Houses within a radius of a mile were shaken. There was no one on the premises, but many people had narrow escapes. The lire brigade quickly extinguished a fire which broke out. The premises are those of I>. lieid and. Sons, plumbers.—A. and N.Z. P.A.
