DEVIATION PROJECT. AIAY BE JETTISONED. In the course of a general review of the railways, submitted fco the House yesterday, the Right Hon. J. <l. Coates, as Minister of Railways, made the following reference to the Bimutaka deviation: — “Regarding the ID mu taka deviation, set- down for commencement next, year, and estimated to cost £1,000,0X1, it may be possible to avoid the need for this work by taking advantage of- later developments in electric traction or by using other special locomotives. The Department *s officers are Investigating’ this now. ’ ’
