SOUTH WAIRARAPA COUNTY
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Soutli County Council was held on Saturday, at Carterton. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £12,(579 16s lOd in county fund; and loans account, £19(59 6s lOd. Rectipts for the month, £4201 4s sd. The Finance Committee recommended with reference to Mr C. Sayers’ claim for unauthorised work done on Kaipatangata road that the overseer inspect the work, and if it be found satisfactory, That Mr Saver be paid for the same, but that he be notified that he must not in future do work without authority.
The Waingawn Frozen Meat Company are to be advised that the Council is of opinion that the road requested to be repaired is not a legal road, but that if the company prove it to be a legal road, the council will have repairs effected. It was decided that, owing to the high estimate for the Park road footpath, the matter be held over until the summer for consideration.
The rafiger reported having dealt with 26 head of stock during the month.
A. W. McKenzie, Brooklyn road, wrote in reference to the ploughing on the roadside, that he intended putting it in order when the job was completed. It had been delayed by weather conditions. A reply is to be sent asking that the trouble be remedied immediately.
The Waihakeke Co-operative Dairy Company applied to have the bridge on the road near their factory widened, it being barely wide enough for two milk brakes to pass over. —Referred to the overseer and councillor for a report at the next meeting. The Main Highways Board wrote asking the Council to go into the question of erecting sign posts on main highways in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Regulations, and stating that it would subsidise the cost of erecting sign posts required under the Act out of the Maintenance Fund. It was stated that the county roads had been well sign-posted by the Automobile Association. Cr. McGregor said it would Re a good idea if there .were a uniform scheme in all counties. It was decided to write to the board, asking if it was supplying the suggested discs and stating that if so the council would be willing to take a number of them.
