Captain Kingsford Smith states that he hopes to commence his flight to New Zealand within the next three weeks, if the weather is satisfactory.—Australian and N.Z. Press Association. AN AIR TRAGEDY. PARIS, Saturday. A biplane piloted by Gaptain Brager, accompanied by a mechanic, during an aerial pageant at Vincennes, caught fire and fell among the panie-stricken spectators. Captain Brager was incinerated and the mechanic seriously injured. When falling, the machine crashed into two women, who were dangerously injured.—Australian Press Association. —United Service. A GIANT BOMBER.
LONDON, Saturday. The public gasped and foreign air attaches were amazed at the first public appearance at Hendon’s annual pageant of Britain’s last word,-the twenty-ton, bomber, Inflexible, a vicious looking, all-metal, three-engined monoplane. It has ,150 ft. span, uptilted. rakish wings, is amazingly mobile, and a quick climber.—Australian Press Association. —United Service. A FATAL CRASH. (Received Monday, 11.55 a.m.) LON D ON, Sunday. While divine service was in progress, an aeroplane crashed into the corner of Clifton churchyard. Tho congregation were unaware of the crash, and the service continued tranquilly till the end, when the vicar was informed. He recited prayers for the dead pilot and his companion.— Australian and N.Z. Press Association. MISSING AMUNDSEN. TROMSO (Norway), Friday. Fishermen returning from a fortnight’s cruise declare that they sighted Amundsen’s seaplane on the evening of Juno 18th, 60 miles north-west of Bear Island, flying towards the South Cape, Spitsbergen. The ’plane was flying very low, but the motor was working steadily. It is believed that Amundsen landed on the southern shores of Spitzbcrgen. Ships have been ordered to search for Amundsen there. —Australian and N.Z. Press Assn.
