MASTERTON BAND.
ENJOYABLE CONCERT. W, There was a good attendance at the Opera House last evening to hear the concert arranged by the Municipal Band in aid of the Boy Scouts. The items A played by the band were greatly ap- A predated, and showed that the band was improving in its playing. The cornet solo by Master Stan Pearson, to a band accompaniment, was splendidly played, as also was the cornet duet, “Ida and Dot,” by Messrs Harding and Cosgrove. An instrumental quartette gave variety to the programme. Mrs 11. M. Morton sang exceptionally well, and Master Henshaw’s ■solos were excellently rendered. Mr Hay’s mouth-organ solos were much appreciated. Miss Hampton accompanied the singers in her usual capable manner.
After the concert, tho Rev. E. M. AlcLevie thanked the band and others who had taken part for the genenua4|g assistance rendered to the Scouts. The band conductor (Mr R. J. Young) offered his thanks to the s.oloists and others who had assisted to make the concert a success. The band, he said, was prepared to meet the public on a fifty-fifty basis. This time they were cut to help the Boy Scouts. Their next concert would be given in aid of their own funds. The members of the band were all intent on reaching the highest possible standard, and with the help of the public were confident of making good progress. Thanks were offered also to members of the Rotary Club, for attending to the “front of the house,” and to Air IT. E. Pitlier for tho loan of a piano. - The collection takings amounted to £7 12s.
