SALESMAN BEFORE COURT. Two charges of failing to account for sums of money totalling £6 2s 6d were admitted in the Wellington Magistrate ’s Court yesterday by Stephen Hope Reid, a salesman, aged 39. Chief-Detective Ward stated that accused had been associated with a land agent, and received no regular wages. His firm collected rents from various properties, including those from some houses belonging to Olive Annie Haybittle. On two occasions tenants called and paid their rent, which was collected by accused and subsequently converted to his own use. Accused stated that he would make restitution. The Magistrate (Air J. 11. Salmon) admitted accused to probation for two years, and, on the recommendation of the Probation Officer (Air T. P. Alills) ordered him to take out a prohibition order against himself. Accused was also ordered to make restitution of the money taken, the terms to be fixed by Mr Alills.
