SCHOOL CONCERT. The pupils of Lansdowne School at the breaking-up ceremony in St. Matthew’s Parish Hall last night, delighted the large audience with a bright and varied selection of class items. It was apparent to the audience that the children had received careful tuition, and the standard of the entertainment, into which the children entered with obvious zest, reflected great credit on those responsible for its presentation. There was also a very fine display of school work. The nail was crowded with parents, friends and children. Mr D. A. Pickering, chairman of the School Committee, after a congratulatory address, presented the prizes, and certificates. Mr J. Noble, headmaster, expressed his gratification at the efficient and useful year’s work accomplished by the school. The complete development of the child—mental, moral and physical —was the definite aim of the staff, and with the aid of its specially talented members the cultural side of education was given considerable prominence. Thanks were expressed to the ladies’ committee, under Mrs Noble, who looked after the supper arrangements, to the ladies and gentlemen who had generously donated handsome prizes, and to the parents for the interest they took in the school. Items were contributed as follov: Choruses, “Hunting Morn,” and “When Daisies Died,” Standard I; musical games by tho infants, (a) “Fairies in the Storm,” (b) “Off we go to Masterton,” (c) “Grand Old Duke,” (d) “Chimes of Dunkirk”; dramatised recitation, “Red Riding Hood,” 'Standard 2; folk dance, Standard 3; songs, (a) Welsh National hoik song,'(b) “Tiddy-I-0 Pulling” (shantoy), Standards 4, 5 and 0; song, “ Robin, ’ Lend to Me Thy Bow” and rhythmic exercise, “Rowing,” Standard 2; dramatised recitation, “Alice and the Gardeners,” Standard 3; folk dances, (a) “Black Nag,” (b) “The Hatter,” Standard 5 and 6; dramatised scene from Shakespeare’s “King John,” act 3, scene 3, act 4, scene l, x Standard o boys; songs, “Knock a Man “Down” (pulling shantey), “Shepherd’s Dance,” Standards 3 and 4; humorous dialogue, Standard G boys; carols, “Noel,” “Adesto Fidelis,” song, “The Minstrel of the Night, Standard 5 and G.
