RESTAURANT RAIDED.

LIQUOR SEIZED. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. A lightning raid was carried out by the police at a restaurant in Hobson street at 9 o’clock last night, when the building was entirely surrounded and entered. While the raiders were busily at work inside, a large crowd of curious people congregated and watched with interest many dozen bottles of beer carried outside and placed into waiting motor-cars. A large quantity of liquor was seized, and when the liquor-laden motors started for the police station the crowd raised three hearty cheers for Mr Mellveney’s men. No one was arrested, but one or two names and addresses were transferred to police notebooks, and no doubt prosecutions on summons at the Police Court will follow.
