TO THE ELECTORS OF MASTERTON TYUBING the past few days, since the Citizens’ Ticket lias been advertised, quite a number*of the business people have asked me why I am not again standing for the Borough Council. I wish to advise the Electors of Masterton that I am standing not only for the Borough Council, but also for the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. No doubt the reason for my not having been selected by the Citizens’ Committee, whoever they may be, is on account of my having opposed granting permission to societies for the erection of their buildings in our public Park. Open, spaces obtained by your representatives in the past were surely not taken up with a view to eventually becoming building sites. They were secured as open spaces for sport, pleasure and beauty spots. Why then grant permission to societies to erect their 'buildings thereon'? If again returned I will do my utmost to protect your ’ parks from such encroachment. As a member of the Gas Committee I j have taken keen interest in the undertaking and battled for the gas showroom until it was accomplished. The Gas Department is a most profitable undertaking, and with the continued careful, administration" it 'should not be long* before you will have a reduction in the price of gas. My 17 years’ experience in business, banking, accountancy and finance, as well as the experience gained in borough affairs during the past two years, is at your disposal. I ask you one and all for your support, assuring you that if I am returned to both the Borough Council and the Wairarapa Electric Power Board I will do my utmost to merit the confidence you have placed in me. Yours faithfully, W. S. HEAPS.

EVERYBODY’S CANDIDATE. TO THE ELECTORS OP MASTERTON. Ladies and Gentlemen, — Having been requested by a very large number of friends and old supporters to stand for a seat on your Borough Council, I have much pleasure in placing niv services at your disposal for the next two years. I have previously represented you oil the Borough Council for six years, where I assisted after many great battles to get you a good drainage scheme, also good water reticulation for the town, and many other important matters carried out. I also have represented you for six years on the Central 'School Committee, and am proud of the good work accomplished by the committees of that period. I have also represented your Council on the Masterton Fire Board for four years, and was instrumental in the purchasing of the new Dennis Eire Engine and other up-to-date fire-fighting appliances, and of disposing of the older and obsolete plant. I was also instrumental in getting a reduction in fire insurance premiums in Masterton. If you do me the honour of returning me on 'Wednesday .next, it will be my desire to carry on the affairs of your town, more particularly the outskirts, on the most progressive, yet economical lines. I represent no particular party or creed, so will bo a free lance to do the greatest good for the greatest number. Believe me to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Obedient Servant, ROBT. RUSSELL. MANAWATU RACING CLUB. (Incorporated.) AWAPUNI RACECOURSE, PALME RSTON NO RTH. AUTUMN MEETING. THURSDAY AND SATURDAY, 28th and 30th APRIL, 1927. First Race starts at 11.45 a.m. Trains to Course.
