VIOLENT COLLISION.

MOTORIST STRUCK BY CAR. SUFFERS FRIGHTFUL INJURIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 25, Thrown violently from the motorcycle he was riding when it came into collision with a motor-,car at the intersection of Fitzgerald Avenue and Cashel St. late last night, Joseph Robinson, a native of Ireland, who has been in New Zealand only a week, received severe injuries, and now lies in a critical condition at the Christchurch Hospital. His injuries arc frightfuj; his left 'leg is broken in two places, one arm is broken, his legs are lacerated, one ankle is -twisted, and his face is torn and scratched. Robinson has not yet recovered consciousness, and an opertaiou cannot be performed until he does.

After the mishap Robinson was picked. up in the gutter in Cashel Street, and it is stated that he Tyas carried fully 14 yards along the street on the front of the motor-ear. At the time of the mishap a mist was lying over the city and visibility was not good. The motor-car was driven by Mr Charles Holdsworth, who had with him Mr Otto Sommer, a wool buyer from Am'bsterdam, and three other passengers. Robinson was travelling south along Fitzgerald Avenue from a dance.

The motor-cycle Robinson was riding is smashed almost out of recognition. The motor-car is only slightly damaged in comparison.
