TIMARU WOOL SALE.
HAiF-PENNY TO PENNY RISE. «T RONG COAIPETIT 10N. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TI..MARI’, Wednesday. The best wool sale so far held in New Zealand this season was the verdict concerning to-day’s wool sale in Timaru. There was a full bench of buyicrs present, representing all the wool consuming centres of the world. The sale went with a swing from start to finish and competition for many of the lines was exceptionally keen. The catalogue comprised 10,276 bales. A genial spring with plenty of feed following a fine open winter ensured good conditioned wool. It is many years since wool for the first sale has come forward looking so well. Fleeces were ten per cent, heavier than was the case last year and the wool well nourished. As the sale progressed competition seemed to strengthen. It does not often happen that such a clearance is made at a wool .sale as was made to-day, when 08 per cent, of the offering submitted changed hands. One firm passed only one bale. Tho bulk of the finer wools went to Colonial mills. Bradford, as usual, was the biggest buyer at the sale. A fair quantity went, to the Continent. The top price obtained was “o:fd for ten bales of super lialfbred ewe.
It is considered that the sale was a half-ponny to a penny better than tire. Christchurch, sale and in the case of Merinos a penny to half-penny better. Following is the range of prices:
