When Gaillard was in M. Gardener’s charge ho showed great brilliancy at times, but could not be relied upon. Since J. Brown has had the son of Absurd —Nor ecu in work he has tried the plan of giving the- gelding mostly road work, and hopes were entertained that this would benefit him, but Gaillard shaped disappointingly at I law era, and his -traineV does not know what course; to pursue with his charge. If he could be depended upon to do his best, Gaillard would be right in the top class among the sprinters.
Elysianor, a dual winner at Feilding, is a stable mate of Civility, and it was pleasing to see tho trainer F. Lind have a turn of luck. Elysianor gave promise last season, and his track work recently showed that he was on tho improve. The son of .Elysianor looked all tho better on Thursday for his race on the first day, and it was surprising that ho was allowed to pay such a> good urice. However, ffialiepoto might have beaten him had he been better placed in the early stages.
