FATAL COLLISION.

U MOTOR AND TRAMCAR. DRIVER OF MOTOR KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Assoeiation.l AUCKLAND, Saturday. At Onehunga, about midnight, a Iramcar proceeding to the terminus, in Touhding a bend, collided head on with ra motor car driven by Leonard Charles Vincent, jun. Vincent got the full force of the impact, and his death must .have been practically instantaneous. <One side of the motor car was stripped ■ off, and the front badly battered. The frqnt of the tram was slighly damaged. Frank Lovelock, the only other oecujpant of the motor ear, was thrown out, but was not injured. He was subsequ- ■ tntly arrested. The tram motorman states that his vehicle was moving slowly. The motor -ear. swung round the corner at a fast pace and crashed into the front of the tram, which had almost stopped. Lovelock was charged in the Onehunga Police Court with drunkenness. «eant Cruiekshank said the police d the defendant drunk on Friday o _t, and later learned he had been -concerned in a motor smash. Lovelock told the court that, about 9 o ’clock on Friday evening, Vincent, whom lie knew only by sight, asked him to go ” for a drive in a motor car.| They started from Victoria station in the city, ; ;md Vincent said they might go as far .-as Papa'kura. When defendant got in the car he vfeund some drink, and they both had -some I ‘spots.” He remembered being thrown from the car when the accident cecurred, -but could remember no more. He was a barman by occupation, but was at present out of work. Lovelock had a deep cut on the right •aide of his face, and gave his address as Id Dominion road, Auckland.
