DRUNKEN MOTORIST.

Page, S.M., in the Wellington Magistrate's Court yesterday, with reference to Theo Walters, who pleaded, not guilty to a charge of being iit charge of a mo-tor-var while in p estate' of intoxication. In evidence .Sergeant Hill said that about 11.15 last-Thursday right week, he was standing at Stewart Dawcoa ’» corner, when he saw a ear being driven along Customhouse Quay toward* Willis Street. His 'attention was attracted by the fact that it was not taking a. regular course along the street. In one instance it almost collided with a pole on the left-hand side. It then swerved over on to the tram rails. The ear was recognised as the one 'noticed in Lamb-ton Quay earlier in tb<T<‘\ ening. “When it passed me on|Kt occasion,” added witness, “It wstt travelling at approximately JO miles an hour. I was unable to get the mtmber. Later in the night, however, when it was coining towards me, I stopped thoenr and s-oke to the driver. He was sp-ting in the car alone, and bad reached that s‘age of drunkenness that be was almost asleen. He was taken out of tbe ear and vdneed in a taxi and taken to tbe police static,;.
