CROSS COUNTRY CHASE. AFTER MAORI THIEF. (By Telegraph—Dress Association.) AUOKLAND, Tuesday. After following a man whom lie had' seen displaying bank notes to the value of .£42 in a hotel at Otahuhu, on Monday,'u Maori, Toe Perc, made a sudden attack and decamped With the money. The owner was proceeding along Princes street when the Maori overtook him and engaged him in conversation. Pore then 'made a swift grab at ithe man's waistcoat and secured the notes. A hue and cry was raised and Pere was pursued across country until he disajqiearcd. An hour later Constable Pollard was riding a bicycle in Pammirc road when he saw a hatless Maori board a ’bus for the city. The constable gave chase, and after furious pedalling he caught up with the bus. The Alaori had then only £l7 in his possession, and would not admit that there was any more in ■the roll he had seized. When charged with theft the Alaori pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
