OBITUARY.

MRS J. C. EODDINGTON.. 11 is our -sad duty to chronicle the death of a highly esteemed settler, who for very many years was a familiar figure in this community. Deep regret will be felt Isy a large number of Wairaiupa -people, at the passing 0.. Mrs Ellen Teresa Boddington, which occurred at -the residence, “Neweombe,” Short- street, last night. Deceased, who-was in her 87th year, ha 1 been iil.fob pome weeks, and her death was not unexpected. Th dlate Mrs Boddington was the daughter of the late Mr William Staunton, and wais born -at Hampstead, England. She arrived in New Zealand about 82 years ago, and came, in 1879, to Masiertc-n, where she bad resided '-ever since. Her husband, Mr J. Compton Boddington, predeceased her by about seven yeans. Possessed of a charming personality and considerable force or character, •Mrs Boddington lrad hosts of friends in the district. She was the sole surviving foundation member of the Masteitou Lawn Tennis Club. .Of a family of 'three sons and four daughters, there are surviving two -sons, Messrs A. ,T. Boddington (Johannesburg, South Africa), and 11. M. Bod•dingten (Master-ton), and three daughters, Miss Boddington (Masterton), Mrs F. D. McGovern (Timaru), and Mrs Ernest Stone (Perth, West- Australia). Deep sympathy will be ' extended to them in their bereavement. The funeral, which will take place on Wednesday ,wili be private.
