Nominations for all events close on Friday, December 11th, at 9 pun., and programmes can be obtained on application to Mr Arthur Way, Secretary, Marton, or permed in the Weekly Press. TURF TOPICS. Motley is in great heart at present and promises to be capable of one of her most brilliant efforts at Christmas time. With 7.10 she reads as well as anything else in the Railway Handicap at Auckland, but her mission will be tho Palmerston North Stakes in which she will probably be a warm favourite. She was given a round yesterday at Wanganui and finished up over the last three furlongs at three-quarter pace, moving very sweetly. Deluge has been very nicely handicapped in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie, and with 8.4 the son of Absurd would have a “royal chance” if he could be got to the post fit and well. "Unfortunately, the chestnut has been sore for some time past and M. Rayner has not been able to give him much work. At Wanganui yesterday, Deluge was given a three furlongs sprint with Adavale, and he covered .the distance very comfortably in 37A sec, a time which lie- could have improved upon easily had he been extended. However, he apeared very sore behind after the gallop, and it seems very doubtful whether Rayner will be able to race him at Ellerslie. The scratching of Kilmiss from the Hack Welter at Woodville yesterday, left Novar to go out favourite, and in the end he w r on nicely, though with very little to spare. Nine of Spades, who was heavily backed, led tho field along the back, with Panart and Purse Proud next. At the turn into the straight Nine of Spades had charge from Black Rock' and Elysianor, and halfway down the running it looked as if Nino of -Spades would hold his place in the 'lead, but- Novar s usual late run w\as too strong for him, and victory went to the favourite by a length. Kilor-um was a length and a half behind Nine of Spade, and Black Rock, Panart and Musical were next. Musical looks very well.

There was a big spread of betting in the Oete Handicap at Woodville yesterday, which ensured a good dividend for whatever won. Megalo jumped out fast, and soon had a break on the field, the most prominent of the others being Peneus, Mireusonta and Solferange, who were in line, while Automne was at the head of the next bunch. Megalo turned for home well clear of Peneus, but did not survive the challenges thrown out to-her. Automne and Peneus were fighting it out "halfway down the straight, when Degage appeared, and in a great finish she stayed on best, and won by a neck from Automne, who beat Solferange by three-quarters of a length, with Peneus right up fourth, and Miss Hupana fifth. Agitato went out one of the warmest favourites of the day when the. Borough Welter came up for. decision at Woodville' yesterday, but the resmt went to «ir Pam, who gave the Wellington owner, Mr. W. Higgins, liis ! third win. of the day. Alabama, led, at the outset, but Birkie took command when the field settled down, and led. from Alabama, Captain Wai, Benmure and Treadwell, with Estlionia and Printemps not far away. At the bottom o the straight the field bunched, and M. McCarteu, keeping clear of trouble, came on the outer and soon hit the front. The others charged down on the judge’s line like a regiment of cavalry! Morris endeavoured to get the favourite through, but the opening was small, and it was not till too late that he got a mil. Sir Pam won. by over half a length from Birkie, who just beat Alabama and Benmure, with Agitato travelling fast ii.longside..

Although Clariuda, Waetca and Kilfaire were well backed for the Woodville Handicap yesterday, Te Mouamu wound up favourite, but he looked in need of the race. Olympic and Fool’s Paradise had charge passing the stand, with Waetca, Kilfaire, Te Monanui, Clarinda and Euchre following. Olympic went, to the front along the back, and

with half a mile to go Kilfaire had run up into second place. Revel was next, just in front of Fool’s Paradise A and Wactea, while Son o’ Mine was at the head of the next bunch, and Merry Day was tailed off. Kilfaire took charge soon after turning for home, but iu the run to the post he was vigorously challenged by Olympic, who had 1 been handy all the way, and Clarinda, who had made up ground fast on the bend. In a great finish Clariuda got up to win by a neck from Olympic, who beat- Kilfaire by a similar distance. Te Moniinui was a length and a-half away fourth, with Waetca and Bumptious next. To Monanui ran a good, honest- race, and will be better for the effort. Fool’s Paradise will be heard from any time now. ' lTorules' ;(t';wWlvilc' yesterday saw Many Colours” <s9' oiit ~a solid favourite,. ,:qaid, lim, thoroughly (justified the confidence - roposed -in him, winning handsaw}©}}- with a lot, in.Jiajid. Rafa led iff tile "early' stages', but was not jumping* t*ob well. He was iu charge going through the straight from Wilmoreana and Axle. Rafa was done with seven furlongs from home, but he got round the coarse all right. Many Colours moved up along the back. Four furlongs from home Uncle Dave and Wilmoreana were just ahead of Araby, and Many Colours waiting on them. Many Colours came away in the straight and won easily by four lengths, with and won easily by four lengths, while Merry Singer got up in the last stride .to snatch second money from JJnele Dave, who was a head in front of Axaby. The Emper or and Wilmoreana were next.
