ADRIFT AT SEA. FOR THREE DAYS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WAIHI, This Day. David Leach, aged 84 years, an old resident of W-ailii, and a lad named Charles Lawson, were reported mitsing on Monday from Ilominga Bay, a few miles down the coast. They left on Monday forenoon for the fishing grounds a quarter of .1 mile out. A strong wind suddenly sprang up, and in an attempt to row back an oar was lost overboard. The frail craft was practically at (he mercy of the wind and the waves and was blown out to sea. The wind increased to a gale during the night and on the second day the boat was miles from the land at night fall. The heroic efforts made by the lad with a single paddle prevented the craft being dashed on the rocks at Mayor Island. The following afternoon (Wednesday) it was picked up ky G. Tongc’s launch, Leach’s two sons accompanying the rescue party, between Mayor Island and tho Aldermen. The boy 'Lawson was feebly paddling and the old man was huddled in the bow in a semi-conscious condition. They had been adrift for three days and two nights without food or water.
