ANNUAL. MEETING OP MANAGEMENT. The annual meeting of the Masterton Women ’s Efficiency .League, which controls five Women’s Hostel, was held yesterday, Mrs W. 11. -Jackson presiding. There were aDo present: —Mesdames i. if Barrer, .1. M. Conuline, A. Hosking,. A. H. Duniell, R. C. Drummond, G. King, 11. E. Pit her and W. Bullock, Miss Vo 1 lance, and Messrs J. Caselberg, T. F. Watson, 11. C. Robinson, W. H. Jackson and A. Keith (escretary). The fifth annual report, read by kies Jackson, stated: —The year 1924-5 lias been a most successful one, and lias enabled the finance committee to considerably reduce the remaining liability of the institution. This success has been due to the untiring efforts of the house management committee and its matron (Mrs McMaster), the well-filled state of the Hostel, and last, but not least, the splendid financing of tne men’s committee. Of our matron we cannot sneak too highly, her work being most praiseworthy. The Hostel is nowfilled to its utmost capacity. In 1920 our permanent boarders numbered 20 per month. There are now 35, the average being 32 for the year. We very much regret having lost the services of our courteous and most helpful secretary and treasurer, Mr W. J. Tennent, who, for health reasons, had to lea\c Masterton. The. work of secretary and treasurer is now in the capable hands of Mr A. Keith. The Hostel was instituted for the convenience of women workers, and it lias fully attained its object. Besides permanent, boarders, a few casual boarders us 1 well us many guests have availed themselves of the Hostel’s accommodation. The house management committee desires to thank the matron most sincerely for her good work, the finance committee and its chairman, Mr J. Caselberg, for their assistance ’and guidance in financial matters, and Mr 11. C. Robinson, the Hostel’s solicitor, for his valuable advice ■at all times.
In moving the adoption of the report, Mr J. Caselberg said the ladies, by their great interest, had been responsible for the great success. The llotftel more than justified its existence. He understood that if there was more room they would easily be able to till it. On behalf of the finance committee he expressed great satisfaction with the progress made. In seconding, Mr Watson hoped the Indies’ committee would take, the electric lighting of the building into consideration. It was badly needed. The treasure reported that expenditure for the year totalled £2469 (pro-vi-dons £lOlO, wages £597, rent £247, firing and heating £-164), end receipts were £2495 11s (boarders M23GO. rent £i;j2), er. balance, £52 9s sd. The report. was adopted. Mr Jackson said the progress of the institution had been eminently satisfactory. Although they had had . to jy,v increased Tent for the building, they had not had to increase the tariff. The house management committee deserved credit for the great success and the excellent tone' of the establishment. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the management committee and to Mrs Jackson. A dainty afternoon tea was provided bv the matron.
