' SITTING AT CARTERTON. (Special to “Daily Times.”) The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, "before Mr.'S, L. P. P ICC ) On a judgment summons, W. Houghton was ordered to pay F. IV. Green a d£-bt of £5 os forthwith, m default seven days in Wellington prison; warrant to be suspended so long as £1 per month is paid, first instalment on January 7tli. , In a defended civil claim of O. Hugh an, Ltd., v, F. J- Keid and <- Broad, claim £7 10s, judgment was given- for plaintiffs with cost lls George Biddle claimed possession ot a dwelling from L. Bosyth, and judgment was given for possession m 4 days, failing which a warrant will be issued. , Richard Jas. Bond, for failing to register for military service, was con vie ted and fined £3 and costs 7s John Hughes, who pleaded guilty to •using obscene language while partly under the influence of liquor, was convicted and fined £3, in default one month's imprisonment in Wellington. The Magistrate remarked that he hoped it- would be a warning to defendant. ■« 'Albert Benge was charged with driving a motor vehicle along Belvedere street in a negligent manner, and further without, holding a driver * license. On the first information defendant was convicted a,ml fined £L and costs £2 3s, and was convicted and discharged on the second information. ■Clifford J. Bond was charged with bein'* intoxicated while in charge or . motor cycle. Defendant was convicted and fined £5 and costs, and had his license suspended for three months. •George Croft and Herbert Waters were each convicted and lined £2 and 7s costs for riding a motor cycle in a dangerous manner, and on a further information of riding a motor cycle without a silencer, were each Convicted and lined £1 and 7s costs. Ivor Tinsley, for riding a motor cycle without a license, was convicted and lined £1 and 7s costs. Boy ‘Franks, for cycling after sunset without a light was convi, ted and fined 30s and costs. William John O'Meara pleaded guiltv to storing dangerous goods within the borough of Carterton, -contrary to the by-laws. Mr. Hart, who appeared for the borough, did not press for a heavy penalty, as it was probably not generally known that it was contiaiy to the law' to store kerosene in the borough without a license. Since the offence defendant had taken out a license and the regulations complied with. Defendant explained that ho was 31 ot aware of the regulations at the time, but had since complied with them. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs, 17s Cd. Informations against 11. D. Petersen, P. Price, 11. F. Skev and W. Tidy for failing to clear gorsc on their properties, were adjourned until January ISth to enable the notices to be complied with, the Magistrate remarking that if the work was got carried out, he penalty would be heavier. John Kerins, for riding a cycle after (•unset without a light, was convicted and lined 10s and 7s costs. James Johnston, for failing to pay monies due under a maintenance order, was- sent on ed to one month's imprisonment at Wanganui, warrant to be suspended for seven days and thereafter'if amount is paid.
