RACING.
NOT TO EE REHANDICAPPED. (By Telegrapn —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Air McManemin has decided not to re-handicap the recent winners, Deucalion, Sun Up and Gold Jacket, for the Auckland Cup. TURF TOPICS. L. <5. Morris will ride Count Devour in the Auckland Cup. Oration is a sure starter in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie, and W. If. Jones will have the mount. One of the surprises of racing was ..he good price Deucalion piaid in the Metliven Cup on Saturday. In Wellington he was expected to be favourite. Actually two others were better backed. It is W. Raynor 's intention to take Mask, The Thorn,, Lysander and Deluge to Auckland at Christmas and to send Anklet, Adavalc and Motley to Awapuni, the last-named to contest the Palmerston Stakes. The jockeys, L. Munson, W. Feilding, and R. McTavish, who were taken to hospital after receiving falls at Takapuna, were not seriously injured, and have left the institution. Automne is booked to race at Woodville on Wednesday. Tins running there should provide a good lino on the chances' of the Gisborne representative continuing the career which he began so successfully iast year. It is probable that F. Tilley will take Mundane, Tukia, Limited, Sinning Armour, Glenross nnd a two-year-old iilly by Absurd —Hinepango, to Auckland. Enthusiasm has no engagements at Auckland,, and will no doubt race at Manawatu.
It is understood by the Christchurch Press that INI. McCart'en lias.declined a .mount on a prominent Auckland Cup candidate other than The Banker. Taking a line through Canterbury Cup running, McC'arten and the connections of The Banker must feel satisfied with the weight allotted the Kilbrouey gelding in the big race at Ell-erslie,- for he is meeting that good horse 11 a pine on the same terms as at lticcarton, when The Banker beat the son of Marran.
Astounding betting figures, rivalling turf fiction, were revea'ied in. connection with the victory of Masked Marvel in the Cambridgeshire Stakes at Newmarket last October (remarks a ■London journel). Following upon ForsettiV win in the Cesarewitch, Mr. Ma comber, the American millionaire owner of both horses, is reported to have won £50,000 on a double laid by a linn of commission agents when the horses were quoted at long odds. One bookmaker declares that ho lost £79,500 while a friend of the owner is said to have won £27,500.
The Exhibition Cup at tl® Forbury Park Trotting Club meeting on Saturday resulted as follows: —1 pi,.gen, ISO yds blul (Withers), 1; ?■ .Realm. 72vds bhd, 2; 4 Talaro, scr, 3. Also started: S Whispering Willie, 9 Harry Audobou, 3 Bell Harold (bracketed with Realm), 7 Dolly Dillon, 2 Black Admiral, 6 Delavan Quest, 5 Began Chief. The favourite reached the front about two and three-quart,er furlongs from home, and, going on, scorc-a a popular win by three lengths, with l) lengths between second and third. Whispering Willie was fourth. Tine, 4.2 o 4-3.
Early indications point to Haze being one of the prime fancies for the Auckland Cup, in which he will be ridden by 13. Rosen. Haze ranks at present as the most unlucky horse who has raced in the Dominion for a longtime. He is. still a maiden, though lie has filled second place in several important events, including the Croat Autumn Handicap and Hawke s Bay Cup last season, and the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Metropolitan Handicap a few weeks ago. . On more than one occasion he appeared to be beaten because his light, riders were unable to get the best out of him at the finish, owing to physical disabilities; His Auckland Cup pilot, is a very strong rider, and in this respect Haze should have every opportunity at Ellerslie of breaking the spell of bad luck that has followed him so fjrj in big races. Rapine has to allow Haze oil) for the beating in the Metropolitan Handicap,, and apart from this Haze should be a better horse for Boxing Day.
