FOOTBALL

"the match of the season.

HAWKE’S BAY v. WAIRARAPA,

The "star” match of the season in! the Wairarapa will be that of Waira-* rapa v. Hawke’s Bay, on Saturdays The Ranfurly Shield holders have had: a test of the quality of the Wairarap.V team on the latter’s home, ground—am-'-ong the matches played in this district! since the northerners haveheld theShieldE being one defeat and a couple off drawn games —and are taking no risk of having their splendid football record spoilt, so they are sending down tha strongest possible team to meet Wairar rapa at the Memorial Park on Saturday^ And what a great team Hawke’s Bay will field! We have the nippy Ncpia, whom English writers herald as the greatest full-back in the world to-day; Blake, the brilliant, and probably the finest three-quarter in New Zealand today; Grenside, the greased-lightning" glider; Falwasser the fast, Mill the marvel,' and Paewai (who are again associated in the five-eighth the "corker’ half-back, the wily Walter on the wing, Gemmell, Ormond, the two Brownlies, Mahoney, Irvine and Kirkpatrick. 'lt is really an AH Blackteam —yet Wairarapa has been able to make All Black combinations "go for then lives” to win. Wairarapa has the name of playing stubborn football— Hawke’s Bay realised that fact last year at Masterton, aad in that defeat, of the Ranfurly Shield holders at Carterton. There should be a display by the Hawke’s Bay backs that will be worth going a long way to see. Wairararapa can be depended upon to play a* sound defensive game, interspersed with, attacking movements, that should gladder. the hearts of the local supporters. Hawke’s Bay will find .the Wairarapa. forwards a pack to be reckoned with. There will be one curtain-raiser only played, viz., the third grade game between Y.M.C.A. and the High School teams, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Mr S. Mum will be the referee.
