. (The tragedy, which occurred on April 22nd, on the road between Kurow and O’marama, was surrounded with a great deal of mystery. A young man, Philip Hudson, and Miss Olive Rutherford, about 17 years of age, both residents of Dunedin, were motoring in company, and subsequently the ear was found at the top of a steep cliff. The girl, whose severe injuries included wounds in, the head, was discovered on a ledge about 20 feet above the ear. The young man was missing, but some time later his body"was found in the river. Empty cartridges were found at the scene of the tragedy, but there was no sign of a rifle. It was thought that the rifle may have been taken to the river by Hudson.)
