GHASTLY CRIME.
WOMAN IN A TRUNK. MURDERED FOR HER EARRINGS. ROME, Wednesday. A typewriter traveller named Gregori, who was suspected of embezzling 55,000 lire from bis employers, became engaged to the firm’s typist, and took her to a cinema, at which he frequently burst tout into hysterical laughter. Next morning the landlady' found in Gregorie’s bedroom a trunk from which blood was oozing. The police expected to find the typist’s body. Instead, there was tho mangled corpse of a fellow-traveller ’s wife, whom Gregori had lured to his room and murdered for her diamond ear-rings, which he pawned for a triflng sum.—Aus. and N.Z.
