Mr F. Jensen took fhrpe horses to the Napier meeting, and it was generally thought that either Pronto or Tempean would win a race, but it was left to Birkenella to pay the expenses. The Birkenhead gelding was unfortunate in the Hack Steeples the. first day, but he won the Hunt Cup easily aftei the way had been made easy by the favourite falling.
■“ Preparations are well .advanced at Trentham for the winter .meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. The new stand, of course, is much nearer completion than it was when the autumn 1 meetjng was held. The newly dressed sand track will be ready shortly, and the turfing'of. the area in front of the main totalisator is in progress. The jumps are being got ready and put in order for the steeplechasers. The course proper is in excellent order for the time of the year.
Trespass was the public choice in the Waiohiki Hurdles at Napier Park yesterday, but there was good money for Bonecto, Many Colours and Birka. Birka led General Carrington and Bonecto past the stand> with the favourite a long way back. Many Colours and General Carrington were showing the way past tlie six furlong post, their nearest attendants being Birka, Bonecto and Merekara. General Carrington lost ground at the last fence but one, and Many Colours went on. He was clear atf'thc last fence, but in the run to the box General Carrington overhauled him, and at the post was only a head to the bad. Gnrzon was a poor third, with Birka,,, ond Bonecto next. Blue Star and Killian lost their riders.
