RIFLE SHOOTING.

THE TRENTHAM MEETING. TO-DAY’S SHOOTING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TRENTHAM, This Day. After a boisterous night, with some passing showers, the morning broke fine but threatening. A start was made promptly at S o’clock with the third range (600 yards) of the opening match. The sun made a few brief appearances. Then the clouds took possession overhead and a slight drizzle made the men don tlveir overcoats. This, however, soon ceased, and bv ten a.m. the conditions were more settled, with a dull, steady light and a slow moving fishtali breeze, mostly from the left rear. The first men down were the least fortunate, as the wind occasionally came in gusts that proved very disconcerting. But those who struck the quiet patches compiled good cards. Of these the tyro Gibson, of Papakaio, who had yesterday got on a possible at 300 yards!, and 34 at 500 yards, was one. He put on 32, and rose from the mound, with a total of 101 —a fine score. As it is strictly aii A “grade” match he only takes the best prize in the B grade, although his score was the best on the range. In the Belt matches this restriction will hot apply, so that the tyro will then take whatever prize in the A and B grade his /score qualifies for. Another tyro, Dudgeon (Nelson), coming back with 32 and 34, added 30, making him 96. Among the A graders, ,1. C. Feast (Greytown) finished strongly, 34—33 — 33 —100, winning the match. His brother, H. W. Feast, was runner-up, 31— 35 —37 —98, and whs followed by Captain Simmonds (Wanganui), Henry (Christchurch), Barker (Linkwater), Swanson (Karori), Healey (Nihoniho, King Country) and Boon (Karori), each 97. Ninety-sixes were plentiful, including the veteran Major Potter (Auckland). W. J. Henry (Christchurch) . scored 97, A. Barker (Linkwater) 97, A'.. Swanson (Karori) 97, W. Healy (Niho niho) 97, 11.
