ERRONEOUS BALLOT PAPERS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Some time after the opening of the poll this morning, consternation was raised among officials at the main polling booth by the discovery that the ballot papers for the election of city members of the Harbour Board contained a wrong direction. The ballot papers were headed, “Election of three members of the. Auckland Harbour Board,” whereas the number of mmebers to be returned is four. The mistake -was not discovered until an elector drew attention to it. By that time two- or three hundred electors had voted. After the discovery was made the polling clerks were set to work marking out the word “three” and substituting “four.” It is considered inevitablc"that the result of this mistake ■will bo a costly one, necessitating another election. * The statement is made that it is certain one of the defeated candidates will have the election Upset.
