WAIRARAPA HOSPITALS.

MEETING OF BOARD.

ESTIMATES FOR THE YEAR

The bi-monthly meeting of the Hospital Board, held yesterday, was attended as follows: —Messrs E. G. Eton (chairman), W. Fisher, T. A 7. Moore. -S. Bolton, J. C. Ewington, C. C. Jackson, R. Smith, A. J. Speedy, W. B. Martin, J. F. Thompson, Phil Pike, 11. 11. Mawley and Arch. Clark. Apologies were received from Mrs W. 11. Jackson, Messrs Q. Donald, AV. B. Matheson and R. B. Robertson.

A quantity of business of a routine nature was transacted, and a special meeting was held subsequently, when the estimates for the ensuing year were passed, subject to the Minister’s consent.

After taking into consideration the income from patients’ fees, etc., it was estimated that the deficiencies for the various institutions for the year will be as follows: —Masterton Hospital, £8855; Greytown Hospital and Buchanan Home, £5370; Pahiatua Hospital, £2330; Solway Home and Social Welfare, £3000; administration, £3150; capital expenditure, £5570.

It was estimated that the total amount to be raised from the local bodies would be about £26,275, a slight increase on last year. AVith the increased population and valuations, this will probably mean no increase to the individual ratepayers on the amount paid last year.

The following recommendations, made by the Central Committee, in regard to the regrading of the salaries of the nursing staffs, was adopted:—Matrons, the present salary to be the minimum, and rising by yearly increments of £5 until the maximum is reached: Masterton, £223, to a maximum of £250, Greytown £2OO to £225, Pahiatua £175 to £200; ward the minimum to remain as at present, viz., £llO, and the maximum to be increased from £l3O to £l5O, rising by annual increments of £10; staff nurses, the present, minimum to be increased to £9O, and the maximum to be increased to £100; probationers, the present salaries of £3O, £4O and £SO for Ist, 2nd and 3rd year nurses to be increased to £4O, £SO and £6O respectively.
