MANAWATU v. VICTORIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. There was bright weather and a slow wicket for the second day. \ ictoria, after a shaky start, added 135 for the last two wickets (Mayne 94). Manawatu, with a first innings lead of 114, went to pieces, and were dismissed for (17, tlie two youngest players scoring 33 of 53 made off the bat. 'Requiring 82 to win, the visitors got them for one wicket. When the board showed 170, Mayne hit Hope to long-off. Donaldson chased, the ball, but was beaten by a fox terrier, which secured it and careered round the paddock, the Manawatu eleven in hot pursuit. (Mayne and Austin ran 10 before the dog was chased to the cycle track, whore a boundary was signalled. After consultation two was entered on the score book. Scores:— Manawatu, first innings, 205; second innings 07 (McViear 10, Galliehan 13, .McDonald 20, extras 14). Liddicutt took li for 21, Ilartkopf i'o r 5, and libeling 2 for 27.
Victoria, first innings, 191 (Willis 37, Mayne 94). Second innings, 85 for 1 (Mayne not out 43, IT. M. Austin 14. E. Austin not out 21). NEW ZEALAND TEAM. CRAWFORD REPLACES COLLINS.
