SENSATIONAL ROBBERIES.
IN NEW YORK DISTRICT. NEW YORK, Saturday. Three sensational robberies occurred in the metropolitan district to-day, which for daring have not lately been rivalled. Three bandits entered the Tuckahoe (New Jersey) Bank, shot and mortally wounded the vice-president, bound the cashier and his wife, and seized a bag containing (5000 dollars. They attempted to escape in an automobile, which zigzagged on to a tree stump in a country road and was wrecked.
A posse of enraged citizens trailed the robbers and surrounded them, and after a gun battle the bandits surrendered, one being wounded. Over 5000 dollars were recovered. Four robbers entered a business office at Long Island City and smashed the faces of the paymaster and treasurer with revolver butts, and seized 8000 dollars. They escaped in an automobile.
Six robbers held up an automobile carrying a paymaster and a bookkeeper from a bank, with 4500 dollars for employees in a textile mill. They seized the funds and escaped in a motor Avhieh quickly outdistanced the pursuers. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
