A meeting jn honour of the Australian athletes was held under the auspices of the Otago Centre, in good weather. The attendance was about 2000. 100 Yards. —N. J. Greman (Australia) 1, Brownlie (Canterbury) 2, Fountain 6. Time, lOsccs. One (Mile Handicap.-—R. A. Rose (Masterton) scr. 1, G. R. Hyde (Australia) 2, Brown (Otago) A great race. Won by 10 yards. Time, 4.20. 880 Yards. —-W. M. Whyte (Australia) scr. 1, Sounness 2, Burney 2. Whyte jogged in an easy winner in 2.4 1-5. 440 Yards. —Whyte scr. 1, Duff 2, Walker 2. Won by 5 yards. One Mile Relay. —-Australia (Hyde, Whyte, (Indian, Parker) scr. 1, Varsity No. 1 2. Five teams started. Australia won by 20 yards. Time, 2.48. One Mile Cycle.—C. Durness (Australia) ser. 1, Wells 2. Seven starters. Burness won 'Dy three lengths. rime, 2.22 2-5.

Burness fell in the seventh lap of the three miles handicap, but continued, which was greatly appreciated by the s]KM-tators. He was unplaced. Rose (’Masterton) won the two mile handicap from scratch by 40 yards, giving a remarkable display of speed. His time was 9.55. THE MASTERTON MEETING. Athletes are reminded that entries for the meeting on Saturday in honour of the Australian athletes close at noon on Wednesday. Entrance to all events is free.
