NEW SEAMEN'S UNION.
A SYDNEY MOVE. (Received Saturday, 10.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. It is understood that the Returned Soldiers and Sailors Watersiders’ Union has taken action to form a Seamen’s Union to co-operate within the State. It is said that many hundreds of seamen have already approved of the new organisation and will join immediately. The object of the union in taking this step is to ensure continued employment for both bodies. The hearing has commenced of a case which will test the right of members of the Returned Soldiers and "Sailors Watersiders’ Union to preference in regard to work cn the wharves. The case is one in which Arthur Leslie Mason, a member of the Soldiers and Sailors’ Union, proceeded against the Astral Stevedoring Lightering Co. for not giving preference to a- returned soldier who was capable of effectively performing the duties. After hearing the evidence and argument, the .magistrate reserved his decision. —P.A. i
