SPEED OF MOTORISTS.

ONE REGULATION DESIRED. AS ENFORCED IN EUROPE. , (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, Friday. The North Island Motor Union, at its half-yearly meeting to-night, decided to forward a remit to the New Zealand Conference, strongly urging it to bring all its weight to bear in having only one speed traffic regulation brought into force in the Dominion, namely, the regulation as now enforced in the older countries of Europe, that the motorist had to drive with safety. “There should not be any restrictions at all. It is time New Zealand learnt a little from tho older countries,’' remarked the mover, Dr. Porritt.

It was decided to support the Auckland Association in their objection to the special heavy traffic fees which are proposed to be made on private motor cars by the Auckland City Council. Fear was expressed that other local bodies might follow suit if the Auckland proposals were put into force . A motion was carried advocating provincial symbols on number plates as follows: —W, Wellington; T, Taranaki; L, Westland; O, Otago; C. Canterbury; N, Nelson; M, Marlborough; A, Auckland; H, Hawke’s Bay.
