AUSTRALIA COMPARED. FAVOURABLE TO NEW ZEALAND. New Zealand pays less income tax than Australia and Great Britain, according to a return accompanying the report of the Taxation Commission. In the ease of a married man without children, in receipt of £4OO per annum, the tax payable- is:— New Zealand, £3 325. Victoria, £9 19s Id. Queensland, £l3 16s lOd. With, three children, a man on the same salary in New Zealand pays no income tax. New South Wales, £1 7s lOd. South Australia, £5 15s 3d. On £6OO a year, with three children, the tax is:— -New Zealand, £5 Bs. " Queensland, £23 7s 9d. On £SOO a year (three children): New Zealand, £22 5s 7d. Queensland, £52 2s sd. On £IOOO a year (three children): New Zealand, £42" Is' 7d. . Queensland, £B6 9s sd.
