RIOTING IN DELHI.
A GRAVE SITUATION. i’ress Association— Electric Telegraph—Copyright DELHI, Wednesday. The rioting was resumed to-day. The situation is grave. Armoured ears were again employed, and the infantry were compelled to open fire. There were no casualties. The city is in a state of panic.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. QUIETNESS RESTORED. (Received Friday, 10.50 a.m.) DELHI, Thursday. Quietness has been restored in the city by police and military. The city is completely in the hands of the military. Seven deaths and 100 wounded, many seriously, were caused by tho Hindu-Mohamniedan conflict on Tuesday.—Sun.
(The disturbances, which were porarily quelled, began during the week-end, w r hen the Hindus, objecting to a Moliammedan boy drawing water from a particular well, belaboured bim so severely that he died in hospital. Severe fighting between Hindus and Moslems followed, and seven people were killed. The police patrolled the streets in armoured cars, and all public places were closed.)
