There were unprecedented scenes at the , commencement of the trial of Richard Mahon for the murder of Miss Kaye at Eastbourne. People flocked to Lewes from all parts of England, and great queues assembled at the court in the early morning for admission tickets. To secure these many offered £lO.
Sir Henry Curtis Bennett prosecuted* and Mr. J. CD. Cassels, M.P., defended. The evidence was mainly a recapitulation of that given in the 'Coroner’s Court.
Mabom was calm and deboniiair, but showed traces of a sleepless night. During the formal' reading of letters by the clerk of the court he fell asleep, but he followed the evidence closely.— Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
