POISONOUS POLISH.

A STOREKEEPER FINED. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. As the result of recent Supreme Court proceedings, regarding the sale of highly poisonous metal polish known as Avo, E. J. Brittain, a storekeeper, was charged at the Police Court yesterday with having sold a pernicious preparation containing prussic acid. Senior Sergeant Rawle stated the liquid polish had been declared to be a deadly poison. Vendors had been warned not to sell their stocks. Upon analysis the preparation was found to contain cyanide and prussic acid. One teaspoonful of the liquid constituted a fatal dose.

The defence was that notice of the dangerous nature of the polish had not been received by retailers who had .stocks. A fine of £2 was imposed.
