AERIAL NAVIGATION.
■ —» DEFENCE OF ITALY. THE FASCIST POLICY. i’rt'as Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Wednesday, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Tuesday. The Times’ Home correspondent says that Mussolini is determined to create an air’Tlorce strong enough to compete with other countries. When the Fascist Government entered oilice the coontrv possessed only 100 effective aeroplane#; to-day, the Italian 8.A.F., which is wholly independent of the Army and Navy, lias one thousand machines. By Jane it will possess 1500 which the Government consider will enable the country to adequately hold its own.
Italy’s geographical position and natural conformation caused the development of aviation to lie more in the direction of seaplanes than aeroplanes. The Alps on t : ho north are a formidable barrier against an air attach from land. The vast extent of the sea coast and the strategic position in relation to other Mediterranena Powers, render a strong force of seaplanes essential to defence. Present developments, therefore, are mainly in this direction. —The Times.
