HOSES AND SWEET PEAS.

A MAGNIFICENT exhibition.

The annual rose and sweet pea show of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society, which is being held in 4he Municipal Hall to-day, has brought rforfch a magnificent display of blooms. The exhibits are set out to advantage in the spacious hall, the decorated ’tables being a specially pleasing feature. , , , The arrangements for the show have .'been attended to in every detail by the secretary (Mr V .G. Darroeh), assisted :.by the officers for the year, who comprise the following:—Patron, Mrs C. F. Vallance; president, Mr H. P. Hugo; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Y. Halse and W. T. Wilton; executive committee, LMessrs Jas. Henderson, Jas. Allan, W. .Kemp, E. Hale, A. G. Allan, F. P. Welch, G. Masters, C. Wilton and Dr. Moser; ladies’ committee, Mesdames D. M. Graham, A. McKenzie, S. L. P. "Free, P. Gordon, G. Williams, D. BuehR. Johnston, H. G. Moser, TrimB. V. Skeet, Misses Robieson, Cameron, Perry, 0. Henderson, C. Gray and McMaster; hon. treasurer, Mr J. CaselkLerg. The judges in the various sections :■ spoke in very complimentary terms of • the quality of the exhibits, which are •quite up to the high standard always :.set at the Master ton horticultural .shows. Miss Murray, of Wellington, the judge in the decorative section, was -very highly pleased with the exhibits, : and remarked that the children s work was much above the average.' There was a great improvement in all decorative classes, particularly in the blending -of colours. Miss Murray said, that this was the best show she had judged at " this year in all the classes. The judge in the cut flower section ■said that he had never seen such a iovely exhibit of sweet peas as those - shown by Mr W. T. Wilton. The roses .and other flowers w-ere also of a very fine quality. Mr C. Goodson (Hawera) judged the ..cut flowers, Miss Murray (Wellington) the decorative classes, and Mr W. jjkfcemp the fruit and vegetables. show was open to the public this afternoon, and will also ;be open tljis .^evening.
