WANGANUI SALE. KEEN COMPETITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI/ This Day. The first .wool sale of the local season opened this morning with a full bench of buvers. . The offering was approximately 13,700 bales, composed mostly of medium and low crossbreds, with a small proportion: of good super Romneys. A fair proportion of old wool, fleece, crutcliing, lambs’,, bellies and pieces was catalogued and some suffered from stfl-lcncss. The sale was marked by confidence and keenness of bidding, all masses of crossbred being eagerly competed, for with extreme rates for good, clean, bulkv bellies and pieces, which, principally, went to Australia and France. The Continent and Bradford were keen opponents. The bulk of fleece wool offered being secured between these two. , „ , Japan and Italy competed freely and took a fair quantity of wools suitable for the trade. Local scourers generally found pieces beyond their limits and were only small buyerf. . Super crossbred sold to 14 3 d and super Romney cross 16d to 17d. Southdown sold well, Bradford buyers being the principal operators. Prices range up to 23d, super bellies and pieces brought 12d to 14jd. Compared with Wellington and Auckland for similar wool prices were slightly in sellers’ favour. As was the case at Wellington, Bradford buyers of super were higher than American operators.
